Charles Berman

Charles Berman is a principal shareholder with the law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, in Santa Monica, California, and he is Co-Chair of the national patent prosecution practice of the firm. He has been active in all areas of intellectual property law for more than 35 years. He has been practicing in Los Angeles since 1978, and practiced in South Africa prior to that time. He has also worked with European patent attorneys.

Berman has extensive IP experience in the United States and foreign countries and has been involved in the U.S. and international licensing of technology. Berman has represented large corporations in actions before the U.S. Patent Office, the European Patent Office, and the German, Japanese, and other major patent offices. He has engaged in major international patent and trademark procurement programs for leading corporations.

Berman currently serves as Chair of Fellows of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), where he was a founding fellow, and has also served on the board of directors. He has held several prominent positions over the past several years in the AIPLA, including being a representative for international meetings. He has been President of the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association.

He is a frequently invited speaker, has written numerous articles on the topic of intellectual property, and has been on the editorial boards of different intellectual property publications. Berman was educated at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.
