Molecules are combinations of atoms held together by chemical bonds. A chemical bond is actually an electrostatic force between electrons and protons and between atoms and molecules. One research article stated the electrostatic force is quite strong. Electrostatic forces are more than 1000 times as strong as gravitational forces. The chemical and physical properties of matter result from the ability of atoms to form bonds from electrostatic forces. There are two main types of chemical bonds that hold those atoms together. They are called ionic bonds and covalent bonds.
