Neutrons and Protons

Almost all the mass of an atom is in the nucleus. The nucleus lies at the center of the atom. The nucleus consists of two types of particles, protons and neutrons. These two particles are called nucleons, the building blocks of the atomic nuclei.

The protons have a positive electric charge. Neutrons do not have any electric charge; therefore they are an electrically neutral subatomic particles of the nucleus. The strong nuclear force binds protons and neutrons together to make the nucleus.
