Settings of Tasks

The objective of the ANTARES study was the identification and evaluation of different applications of nanotechnological procedures and products in technology developments for space. The basis for the investigations was an adjustment of the working fields of nanotechnology competence centers in Germany and space technology requirements, which for example are mentioned in the "European space technology requirement document" of ESA1.

In addidition, the utilization of space infrastructure as a research instrument (e.g. microgravity experiments) for nanotechnological developments should be identified and evaluated. Based on the results the R&D needs should be determined and in a further step, suggestions for research and development projects should be formulated in this area. As a further aspect the communication between the space and the nanotechno-logy communities should be intensified and improved as a basis for lasting cooperation relations.
